How do we prepare students not just to learn, but to connect, collaborate, and thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world?
A newly published article in Future Review, “Social Emotional Learning and Technology Integration” by Dr. Mabel CPO Okojie, Dr. Tinukwa C. Boulder, and Dr. Felix Oguamah (2025), explores this question—and offers powerful insight into what modern learning can (and should) look like.
At the heart of the article is a simple but compelling idea: students learn best when emotional intelligence and technology work together. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) supports students in understanding their emotions, building strong relationships, and making thoughtful decisions. When paired with purposeful technology use—from simple digital tools to immersive AI-driven platforms—SEL can deepen engagement, strengthen motivation, and create more meaningful learning experiences.
The authors highlight six foundational SEL principles—self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, relationship skills, responsible decision-making, and mindset—and show how each can be reinforced through innovative technology integration.
From collaborative digital projects and reflective video journals to generative AI supports and virtual reality cultural experiences, the article demonstrates how technology can serve as a bridge—not a barrier—to connection, empathy, and authentic learning.
Yet, the authors also deliver an important reminder: technology must be used thoughtfully. Issues such as the digital divide, over-reliance on AI, and reduced human connection require careful attention to ensure equity and meaningful engagement remain at the center of education.
